Botox for Aesthetic Purposes
Botox (Botulinum toxin) applications have become most common aesthetic treatment since introduce 1989. Botox applications aim to treat facial wrinkles like crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines and frown lines. These wrinkles make you look tired, old, angry or unhappy. Botox injection, particularly in the upper one-third of the face, offers predictable results and is associated with high patient satisfaction. Patients with static and dynamic wrinkles are ideal candidates for Botox injections.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Botox injections are not recommended however Botox application is not expected to travel far enough through the body to affect a fetus or breastfeeding infant.
However we use topical anesthesia and cold-pack before application, Botox application may hurt as any injections. The needles used for Botox injections are very small, so you suppose to feel a minimal disturbance and pain. We don’t recommend to rub or massage the treated areas for 24 hours
The effects of Botox applications last from 4 to 6 months. The durations depends your age, your expression and facial structure and whether you use Botox repeatedly or not.
Botox for Bruxism (Teeth Grinding) / Masseter Botox
Botox applications also performed for medical purposes such as bruxism (teeth grinding).
Bruxism, more commonly known as teeth grinding, is clenching and grinding of teeth with unconscious contractions of the masseter and temporal muscles during sleep and even while you are awake. It means that most of the people are not aware they are doing it.
%8 to %16 of the population has bruxism that leads not only dental problems, but also pain in ears, neck, teeth, temporomandibular joint and jaw but it often an underdiagnosed condition.
The cause of bruxism is not clear, but anxiety, physical stress, sleep disorders, malocclusion, medicine and lifestyle of the patient are the risk factors which are usually linked to teeth grinding.
Botox injections for masseter and temporal muscles are the current and the most effective way of treating bruxism. The effects of Botox application last from 6 months to 1 year. Patients who received Botox feel less pain just 2 weeks after the application.
Botox injections also avoids masseter muscle hypertrophy due to bruxism that can revert your shape of face from a square shaped face to a youthful upside down triangle.
