Otoplasty is a surgical procedure aims to give your ear cartilage anatomical and more natural appearance. This procedure changes position, shape and size of your ear cartilage.
Otoplasty can be performed after the age of six through whole life. The children with prominent ears can be bullied and teased at the school, thus I prefer to do this procedure just before the beginning of primary school. If you think your ears are too prominent and the appearance of your ears makes feel embraced and causes social and psychological distress on you, you are a good candidate for otoplasty. And also congenital disorders can be fixed with this surgery.
This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia, the patient may choose the type of anesthesia. Otoplasty can be done for both of your ears and also can be done for only one of them.
Otoplasty takes 2 hours. You have bandages on your ears for several days after the surgery. After the removal of bandages, I recommend my patients to wear headbands for several weeks.
